SITIZEN TO ACTIZEN CAMPAIGN GOES TO  NATIONAL YOUTH SERVICE CORPS KOGI STATE PERMANENT ORIENTATION CAMP

The engagement with the Batch B stream 1 batch of Corps members started with brief introduction to Africana League; programs and projects as well as objectives the campaign seeks to achieve and why corps members are one of the most important stakeholders in focus.

The talk centered on their roles in building a greater Nigeria and the speaker, Bayonle Fesobi, Africana League’s Programmes Officer harped on the small steps they can take as corps members as a way of contributing to the development of the community they find themselves.

He appreciated the NYSC for the opportunity and congratulated the corps members for accepting to engage in the one year commitment to national development. Bayonle shared a personal experience of how he has produced five Presidential Award winners and how his community service and volunteering work landed him access to amazing  opportunities.

He told them that Nigeria  need citizens to survive and that their efforts translate community and nation building; it gives the citizen leverage in pursuit of their dreams and aspirations.

He stressed on the need to build a credible social media perception, boost leadership skills and the recognition that could open exotic opportunities that will make them active citizens.

He noted that Africana League will help in proper profiling and cataloguing their track records during and importantly after NYSC. "We provide the continuous, positive relevance, consistence, focus and legacy that will gradually build you up into a role model that would inspire others" He told them

He presented them an open cheque to a secured future rooted in nation building as Africana League is the Secretariat of the United Nations Network of Youth Leaders on SDGs will give them the visibility they need.

He encouraged them that their dreams are realistic and when they become the great men and women, their past rather than haunt them will give verifiable evidence and voice to what they are known for. Your credible documentations with Africana League will go a long way to keep track records and amplify your image branded towards nation building.

When Africana League called them to action noting that it is not enough to complain, and that they can act today; he requested that they identify an immediate challenge inn camp and see how to solve it. Corps Member Faith Chidinma, identified that after her engagement with several kids who hawk and roam the camp community, some of whom are out of school was due to lack the financial capacity to stay in school.

Significant was the case of a boy whose teacher came searching for him in order for him to write the terminal examination. But the boy whose debt in school had risen to Ten Thousand Naira (10,000) had to get an immediate rescue as Onuoha Azuka, a graduate of University of Nigeria, Nsukka paid the fees. This attracted the attention and efforts of the Olori of Asaya Community who drafted them into the committee that would see to it that more out-of-school children are brought back to class.

The presentation had 548 corps members who identified with Africana League and a special team of ten (10) corps members who contributed to make the campaign a success on camp and volunteered to be ambassadors with Africana League.

Association of African Women Against Poverty  (AAWAP), Mentor  Foundation And Novelle International including  the NYSC applauded the efforts of Africana League in collaborating with key stakeholders in nation building and development.

In their separate remarks, they committed to partner with Africana League to see that Corps Members are guided properly into active citizens who make meaningful impacts in their communities they find themselves during and after their service year.
