Chelsea reportedly targeting two Serie A stars as Alvaro Morata replacements

Chelsea are reportedly looking to recruit a new striker in January, with Mauro Icardi and Patrick Cutrone top of Maurizio Sarri’s shopping list.

Earlier on Thursday it was alleged that the Blues boss and board had now given up on their current front man , Alvaro Morata.

Now, according to SunSport , the club have identified two top targets as potential replacements for the Spaniard.

Inter’s Mauro Icardi is understood to be Chelsea’s number one choice, though he would likely cost around £90million.

Meanwhile Milan’s Patrick Cutrone has also been mentioned as a cheaper alternative, thought to be valued at around £25million.

25-year-old Icardi has been linked with the Blues for several years, having burst through at Inter and become one of Europe’s top strikers.

Already this season, the Argentinian has netted five goals and picked up two assists in his eight matches played.

He finished the last campaign with 29 goals in 36 games.

Cutrone, 20, is a lesser-known prospect, but has scored three times in his first six fixtures of 2018/19.

The Italian ended last season with 18 goals in 46 matches.

Despite Maurizio Sarri’s side getting off to an impressive start to the season which currently sees them sitting second in the table, the Spanish attacker still hasn’t produced top level performances.

Alvaro Morata started in good shape at the beginning of his debut campaign in 2017/18, but then hit a goal drought midway through and has not fully recovered his best form since.

New manager Sarri trusted the 25-year-old to start the season up front for Chelsea, but soon changed his mind and followed Antonio Conte by dropping him in favour of Olivier Giroud.

SunSport claim the Blues’ board see the team as genuine title contenders again this season and don’t want to jeopardise their chances by failing to address their lack of a top quality goalscorer.

Therefore, they may look to offload the former Real Madrid and Juventus man, and splash out on someone new.
