Few weeks to the governorship election in Ondo State, the Alliance for Democracy has accused the ruling Peoples Democratic Party of using thugs to disrupt the campaign and distract its candidate, Chief Olusola Oke.
The party appealed to the state police command and other security agencies in the state to be proactive in the protection of their members before and during the governorship election, coming up on November 26, 2016.
The Director-General of the Olusola Oke/Gani Dauda Campaign Organisation, Mr. Bola Ilori, made the allegation in a statement issued on Thursday.
Ilori said the AD was a fast-growing political party in the country both in members and structure, saying it was certain that the AD would defeat both the ruling party and the All Progressives Congress in the governorship election. He said that was the reason for the distraction.
However, the Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Mr. Banji Okunomo, denied the allegation.
He said the PDP was a peace-loving party which did not involve in any act of violence.
He said the AD was an extension of the APC which was seeking relevance in the media by allegedly raising frivolous allegation.
